Rare Gas Measurements in 30 Stone Meteorites

چکیده

The concentrations and isotopic composition of He, Ne and Ar in 29 chondrites and 1 achondrite have been determined. Detailed accounts of the experimental technique used and the reproducibility and accuracy obtained are given. The U,Th-He4, and K-Ar ages derived from our results are in agreement with the already known age distributions of the different chondrite classes. Our measurements have revealed a linear correlation between the (He3 /Ne21) spall and the (Ne22/Ne21) spall ratios, following the equation (constants for chondrites) : He3/Ne21 = 2 . 4 0 + 2 3 . 4 (Ne22 /Ne21 1 ) . The significance of this correlation and its possible application in detecting diffusion losses are discussed. The radiation ages derived confirm the salient features observed in the radiation age distributions of the different chondrite classes. Five new meteorites with trapped gases were found (2 solar type, 3 planetary type).

The Physical Properties of Meteorites and Interplanetaery Dust Particles: Implications for the Properties of Stone Asteroids

Introduction: Most asteroids for which porosities have been inferred have porosities ranging from 20% to >50%, with a mean of ~30% porosity [1]. Porosity significantly affects the physical properties of rocks, including the strength, thermal conductivity, seismic velocity, and dielectric permeability. Some asteroids have high enough porosities to affect their internal structure, gravitational f...

Cold Desert Alteration of Martian Meteorites: Mixed News from Noble Gases, Trace Elements and Oxygen Isotopes

Introduction: Currently, about 30% of the known Martian meteorites have been found in Antarctica, with some rare samples such as the orthopyroxenite AHL84001 amongst them [1]. We have previously shown [2, 3] that terrestrial weathering in hot and cold deserts can cause elemental fractionation of air incorporated into those meteorites, which complicates the quantification of the noble gas compon...

Petrology and geochemistry of whole rock of Shahdad meteorites

In this study, meteorite pieces, with total weight of 259 grams, have been studied which is not listed in the world bulletin of meteorites. In order to classify these samples, after preparing microscopic thin sections and performing accurate petrography, using geochemical data of the major elements and trace elements of whole rock, obtained from XRF and ICPMS methods in Zarazma company’s labora...

Organic Compounds in Meteorites

. There is little doubt that the bulk of the organic matter in meteorites is indigenous, judging from isotopic measurements on C, H, and S (20, 21). Such proof is not available for individual compounds, however, and it is therefore necessary to resort to less direct arguments to rule out terrestrial contamination. We shall briefly review the most reliably established features of organic matter ...
